Snake River
Snake River

One of three great river systems birthed on the plateaus of Yellowstone National Park, the Snake is one of the nation’s most picturesque rivers as it cuts a north-south path at the base of the awe-inspiring Tetons en route to the Columbia. After leaving Jackson Hole, it enters a canyon famed for its Class III whitewater rafting before turning west into Idaho, where it becomes the lifeblood for the southern end of the state. In early 2009, history was made with the passage of the Craig Thomas Snake Headwaters Legacy Act, thanks in large part to GYC and our members.  This legislation made the Snake the first river in the country to have an entire watershed protected — 387 miles of rivers and streams.
