  • Caribou-Targhee: This 3-million-acre forest in Idaho, which includes the Curlew National Grasslands, has been hard hit by logging and phosphate mining. Ranger districts: Palisades, Dubois, Teton Basin, Ashton/Island Park, Montpelier, Soda Springs, Westside. Highlights: Jedediah Smith and Winegar Hole wilderness areas, Palisades Wilderness Study Area, Grays Lake. GYC’s work: Striving to halt the expansion of a phosphate mine on the Idaho-Wyoming border and prevent a new one from poisoning the Blackfoot River.
