Defending Wild Rivers

From the mighty Yellowstone River to remote mountain streams, the wild, free-flowing rivers of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem are powerful symbols of the intact, untamed nature of the region.

These storied waters are the lifeblood of the ecosystem, supporting iconic wildlife, thriving communities, and unparalleled opportunities for reverence and recreation.

For as vital and beloved as our rivers are, their future is anything but secure. As development, degradation, and a changing climate put our rivers at risk, the time to invest in meaningful conservation and restoration is now.

The Greater Yellowstone Coalition works hard to keep the region’s rivers wild, clean, and free flowing. Here at the headwaters of the West, we know that the health of the rivers in Greater Yellowstone impact not only our ecosystem and communities, but also those far downstream. From advocating for Wild and Scenic River protections, to conducting on-the-ground restoration projects, to ensuring rivers have a voice in land management planning processes, the Greater Yellowstone Coalition is dedicated to keeping Greater Yellowstone’s rivers wild and free for generations to come.
