US Highway 89 Wildlife & Transportation Assessment Community Meeting (Gardiner, MT)

  • The Gardiner Community Center 208 West Main Street Gardiner, MT, 59030 United States (map)

Join GYC and Yellowstone Safe Passages to learn about the key findings from the US Highway 89 Wildlife & Transportation Assessment.

On March 11, 2024, Yellowstone Safe Passages released the US 89 Wildlife & Transportation Assessment to the public. The assessment offers proven solutions for seven areas with the highest rates of wildlife-vehicle collisions and detailed explanations of why those sites were identified. You can read the key findings here.

This process – and the subsequent assessment – are so valuable because when wildlife crossing overpasses and underpasses are used in combination with fencing to funnel wildlife and are constructed in the proper locations (hotspots for wildlife-vehicle collisions and migration corridors), wildlife-vehicle collisions decrease by up to 97 percent.

The success of this work depends on all of you and we value your feedback! Stop by any of the meetings to ask questions and voice your concerns. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
